Jubilees! by ExMile Jubilees! by ExMile
Jubilee as a mutant and Jubilee as a vampire!

I prefer the mutant. It's really disappointing they stripped her powers from her rather than develop them more. I wonder if that's due to the misconception most people have about the character being "weak" and "useless". Which is utter bullshit and only proves that no one actually pays attention to comics.

I'd go on a rant about how people have a misconception about Jubilee and her powers because all they know of her is the 90s X-Men cartoon, and she's actually quite powerful on top of being totally bodaciously awesome, but I'd rather just post my art and move on!

(for now)

Note: the backgrounds were derived from stock images I found online. I added a number of texture/color filters, as well as my own effects. I've been balls deep in commissions lately and I didn't have time/energy to build my own bg entirely from scratch.

Credit to the base images goes to their respective artists (I'm not sure who they are).

Even the cartoon version is cool. I take someone relying on resourcefulness (like she does in both medias) over overpowered shmucks any day....

Yeah, the depower sucked since we never got to see the real manifestation.  And then "Eh, just make her a vampire" seemed a cop out.  But at least they kept her instead of throwing her out I guess.  Hell, I liked "Skin", and we saw where he ended up.

Dani Moonstar is another one of my favorites and she just dropped out entirely. They brought her back to lead the New Mutants awhile ago, but she was completely depowered.

I've seen her in Generation X lately (which is a comic where Jubilee leads the team), but I dunno what else they're doing with her. Probably nothing.

Dani's a character who had fear-based powers, and as someone who likes horror I can't help but groan when I see them squandering her potential. I feel like if Dani was a DC character they'd team her up with Deadman or someone from the Vertigo line and she'd be right at home in the "superhero horror" comics that DC likes to make every so often.

Alas, Marvel...*sighs*

I no longer mind the fact they turned Jubilee vampire so much they didn't develop vampire Jubilee any better than the mutant Jubilee which is sad because when she was showing off her vampire powers she was quite powerful.. I mean she was hurling one ton boulders and turning into red mist and bursting into supernatural flames to name a few but alas Marvel decided to NOT develop Vampire Jubilee any better than mutant Jubilee and after a few issues of awesome vamp skills.. They gave her Shogo and she's been stuck in ZERO real progress mode ever since. As much as I hate to break a few hearts.... Shogo is going to have go to someone else or disappear for good before Jubilee will start moving again as a superhero/etc.

Just so you know.. Marvel once described her powers as walking atomic bomb which suggest they were more than firecrackers.. But alas.. They are stuck on NOT developing her and she is more background pony.. I mean background hero..  Than anything else.. As for why I no longer care.. She's been at it long enough to where most of her fans are Ok with it. They still miss the firecracker but if we don't move on.. She will stay a backgrounder.. On the plus side.. She gets to avoid the current Marvel meltdown better that way... Xp

Yeah that's true. The more under the radar she is the less likely Marvel will fuck her up beyond all recognition. It's bad now but based on Marvel's track record it could be a hell of a lot worse.

Or will  be a lot worse.Nod  Depending how much longer they can ""sell"" the idea before they see it's not selling. :( (Sad) :| (Blank Stare)

At one point, Jubilee and Wolverine get flung through time, and I believe she confronts her parents killers.  She makes the comment that if she wanted, she could give them one little firework each, directly into the brain.  That's all it would take.

Earlier in the comic she melted a sentinel or two with a super sized version.

She had a lot of range, but Marvel in general lets the most popular form of media override continuity.  So 90's cartoon Jubes became her default mode.  Then she got shunted off to Gen X (Kiddy table of the X-Books), and finally depowered by the house of M idiocy.

Still aslong as she's got fans, not even death will keep her down, same as any comic character.

I'd have went with "Jubilations!"

But as long as she's getting some love, i'm cool with it!

A friend who read far more X-men comics than I described her as having powers that always hinted at being more... and then they never really did anything with it. Which sounds like the kind of follow through you usually get in mainstream comics.

They established her potential pretty early on in her comics appearances, with her single handily saving Wolverine from the Reavers and then fighting with Mandarin.

She was super resourceful, and she'd "get angry" and cause massive explosions and stuff. The reason she "shoots fireworks" is because they're the weakest possible manifestations of her powers, and she does it because she doesn't want to hurt anyone.

I think they maybe hinted at she was aware of what she could do if she really let loose, and was purposefully holding back because she was afraid.

Buuuut...they then just kinda turned her into the Jubilee from the cartoon for awhile, and that became ingrained in people's heads. Then rather than developing her powers further and actually getting really creative, they dropped them and made her into a vampire. She is a very cool looking vampire though, but it would've been nice if she could've been BOTH.

Anime/manga seems to be able to make the most mundane of abilities seem super entertaining, but Marvel can't think of anything to do with a character who is basically a walking BFG-9000...

She got depowered as part of the fallout from House of M, right? "No more mutants"... with the unspoken caveat of "unless they're popular, in which case - they're fine".

I'm kind of surprised her de-powering stuck... but I guess if you're a second stringer, your chances of returning to the status quo are dramatically reduced. The archetypal example being Barbara Gordon needing multiple universe resets to walk again after being paralysed, whereas Batman needed... what a few months?

What Marvel didn't realize is that Jubilee actually IS really popular. Tons of fans complained so they started putting her in comics again. Even giving her her own mini series with Wolverine. She's actually the team leader in one of the current books.

They still haven't given her powers back yet. Which is pretty boneheaded, IMO.

Given some of Marvel's recent decisions, I think Jubilee is probably one of their lesser errors at the moment.

I honestly didn't realise that Scarlet Witch's depowering was still a thing. I mean, I'd completely forgotten about it.
